NOVICE filmmaker Zack Snyder has been tapped to develop and direct the upcoming espionage thriller Rainbow Six, based on the Tom Clancy novel, for Paramount.
The story is about a CIA operative who leaves the agency to create a British-based antiterrorism squad.
Paramount has produced a string of Clancy titles, including The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger and The Sum Of All Fears.
It also has acquired Clancy’s Red Rabbit.
Snyder made his feature directing debut with last year’s horror picture Dawn Of The Dead.

Zack,
I heard that you would be doing Rainbow Six, oddly enough the news is now over 2 years old!
But now that I hear you’re working on it, I’m really excited. The story for Dawn of the Dead and 300 adaptations were phenomenal, and Watchmen is supposed to be just as good. This has me really excited with Rainbow Six and the possibilities. Best of luck, hopefully you can get that out soon, I’ve been waiting for years for that movie!

I also remember reading that on Done Deal a few years back. Was disappointed when I first heard John Woo was not doing it… until I heard you were on board. I can’t wait to see what you do with the “blackest of black operations” Zach! Very much looking forward to seeing your take on superheroes with Watchmen, your panel at San Diego was terrific. When you said you were going to keep it set in 1985, you made this skeptical fan a believer. Would love to one day see your take on something like a Western. Maybe something classic like a Searchers remake or something with a
twist like Territory 51.
Thanks, Lindsay
